Five Valentine’s Day Date Ideas You Can Do At Home
Even though Valentine’s Day may look a little different this year doesn’t mean date night should get thrown out the window. Don’t let the restrictions put a damper on creating romance and special moments with your partner. We encourage you to put the phones down and actually look each other eye to eye and restart the romance at home.
We included some of our favorite at home date night ideas to help brighten up your Valentine's day or any future date nights. We hope our suggestions spark some romance.
Create a “Theme Day or Night”
Who doesn’t love a good theme! Neither of us have ever watched The Sopranos or The Wire. Given the new amount of free time we have on our hands we took the opportunity to designate certain days/nights of the week to watch these award winning shows and discuss the plot twists and complicated characters. Sunday’s was dubbed, “Sopranos Sunday”. I would make charcuterie boards for our midday snack each Sunday accompanied with red wine and cook different Italian dishes for our Sunday dinner. Wire Wednesday was of course dedicated to watching The Wire in the evening. By having these designated days it gave us something to look forward to each week and allowed for great discussion around a variety of characters and story lines. Bonus, I got to try my hand at making dishes I have always wanted to cook from scratch from homemade baked ziti to shrimp and scallop linguine, I was able to improve my culinary skills.
Boozy Brunch
Anyone that knows us, knows we love a good weekend brunch. From unlimited mimosas to great food, brunch is always the BEST option to celebrate the weekend. While dining out in NYC isn’t an option right now, we decided to bring our great brunch experiences home. Each weekend we decided on which dishes we would want to prepare for our Brooks Brunch, go grocery shopping and create our very own private brunch party with the perfect playlist included. From Crab omelettes with old bay home fries to avocado toast with hickory smoked bacon and of course unlimited mimosa, we thoroughly enjoyed our weekend brunch parties.
Create a Digital Vision Board
If there is one important thing we learned from being at home more is the simple fact that we need more space. While I love our apartment and don’t ever want to let it go, a home with space and a yard has become a closer reality and goal for us. Given Adrian and I have our own visions of how we would want our home to look, we decided to put pen to paper and create a vision board for our future home. We use google slides for our digital vision board and pull images for each room of our future home. We continue to add images that speak to the home we want to create. This activity has helped create a clear picture and focus for us to visualize once we begin searching for our first home.
Couples Game Night
A little competition never hurt anyone. Adrian and I are both competitive people by nature. In an effort to still connect with friends safely we like to host virtual games nights with other couples to help have fun together and catch up at the same time. We enjoyed a variety of games from Jackbox games to Scattergories. The bonding time with friends has been priceless and gives us some sense of normalcy.
Friday Night Happy Hours
Who doesn’t love a great cocktail after the end of a long work week. When we were working in our offices, we always enjoyed meeting up after work for happy hour. It was a break from our normal routine and allowed us to catch up outside of the home. With us now working from home why not add a bartender to our list of skills. From mastering the perfect margarita to crafting a few new cocktails like the D’USSE Colada or blood orange margarita, we thoroughly enjoyed our Friday night happy hours at the Brooks Lounge.
