A Holiday Honeymoon in St. Lucia

For us the honeymoon destination and experience were just as important as the wedding. We had grand ideas (well maybe just me) and a decent budget saved to have a relaxing and fun honeymoon.

Our original plan included us traveling to one of my favorite cities Dubai for a few days over the Christmas holiday break and then jet-setting to the Maldives. Based on a ton of research in between the wedding planning, the cheapest and quickest way to visit the Maldives was stopping at a nearby city rather than flying directly.

Between wedding stress and time needed to dedicate to research for the Honeymoon, I was over it and threw it to the side as the wedding required way more of my attention. Fast forward, the wedding is finished and still on the wedding day high, September arrives and we realize we had no backup or clues for where we would honeymoon.

For us, we didn’t want to fall into the cliche of honeymoons and travel to an island or have an all inclusive experience. However, when you want to go on a honeymoon in December and don’t start planning until September, adjustments have to be made, LOL.

We remembered our wedding photographers, Megapixels Media, raving about their time at Sandals in St.Lucia just a few weeks before in early August and asked them for their honest feedback about Sandals. Let’s face it we have all seen the commercials and laughed at the cheesy romantic persona they displayed for couples. They told us, “One of the best resorts, food, and overall experiences in a long time”.

With this glowing endorsement, we journeyed on to the Sandals website and never looked back. On one of Adrian’s school holidays in September, he spent about four hours on the phone with a lovely Sandals customer service agent securing the last, Honeymoon Hideaway suite. While I thought it was a bit over the top, at first to have butler service during the honeymoon, after watching several videos and receiving our welcome package before the trip, I was ecstatic about the trip and our booking decisions.

Upon arrival to the St.Lucia airport, we were directed to the private Sandals lounge to check-in and await our transportation to the Sandals La Toc resort. On the island of St.Lucia, Sandals has three properties, La Toc, Grande, and Halcyon Beach. The La Toc was the best of all three properties in our opinion featuring 9 restaurants (27 in total including the restaurants at the nearby resorts).

After an hour long drive through the island you enter a beautiful property full of life and color. Given we had a butler service level room, we were taken to our private check-in area at the high point of the resort and were greeted with homemade rum punch and delicious bites. Once checked in, one of our assigned butlers, Delia greeted us and drove us to our honeymoon hideaway. Within the suite we had a pre-chilled bottle of champagne, bar full of our pre-selected preferred liquors and beverages.

Delia provided us with a detailed tour of the rooms, resort and gave us our personal cell phone to contact her or our other butlers on call for our time at the resorts. One of the first requests, we asked Delia was to see if there was an availability to attend the famous Friday night Fish Fry in town (we did not have a chance to book this ahead of our arrival). Within 30 minutes Delia secured our spot and booked our tickets.

The Friday Night Fish Fry was the perfect ending to our first day and start to our honeymoon. Over the course of seven days, we experienced top tier service from our butlers Delia, Trisha, and Ferguson, amazing cocktails by the pool, beach, fresh seafood, breathing taking tours by boat and land around the island, Christmas Day massage, and uninterrupted relaxation after a busy year.

2. Story Time: We learned about this great tour from another couple we were speaking to one evening by the fire pit. They shared they had the best time and it was worth the price. They shared when we were on the beach the next morning asking around for King Nigel’s tour. We paid $100 each for an all day tour of the island, which included unlimited rum punch, beer, and banana moon shine.

We hope this post intrigued you to take a visit to the beautiful island of St. Lucia. We loved our experience and relaxation at Sandals La Toc so much, on our second to last day we booked a trip for December 2020. To say the least, we are now Sandals converts and get excited every time we see a full circle, I believe we can call that growth.
